Cloned Heat II: Leaving Home #MFRWHooks #RainbowSnippets #SnipSun #8Sunday

Genre:
M/M erotica, sci-fi

Blurb:

While fleeing fearsome Pingucury raiders, hunky roughnecks Iker Macauley and Peregrine Varga encountered Ohannes Hertz, a pleasure clone left for dead at Lord Gabriel Blackwood's ranch. The grateful Ohannes offered the pair a place to hide and refresh themselves, and the trio became intimately acquainted.

Iker and Peregrine hope to get Ohannes to the safety of the monastery before they return to company headquarters for their new assignment, but their mission is interrupted by a group of randy renegade soldiers under the command of the rogue general Darden Bissette.

Finn Storm is an amphibious pleasure clone created by Bissette to fulfill his merman fantasies. Finn is full of surprises and Ohannes swiftly falls under the seductive siren's spell.

Snippet

Ohannes Herod Hertz was disconsolate about having to leave the only home he had ever known. The young pleasure clone insisted on looking through his master’s bedroom for a memento.

“Son, we really don’t have time,” roughneck foreman Iker Mehmûd Macauley insisted. “The military or the Pingucury could come through here at any minute. We need to get moving early if we’re to have any hope of getting to the monastery by nightfall.”

“Let him see if he can find a little something to take with him, Ike,” Peregrine Cenric Varga countered. “The poor kid is losing everything he’s ever known. Let’s make it quick, though, Ohannes. The Pingucury usually attack at night, but they’re unpredictable. The military is supposed to protect civilians, but there’s a lot of corruption in the ranks. I’d prefer to avoid the lot of them.”

Note
I've received a couple of complaints about the brevity of my snippets. The Cloned Heat series is comprised of short stories with an approximate 3000-word count for each book. If I gave away an entire chapter each time, I'd be giving away most of the book in a month. Think of it like the little spoonful you get if you go to an ice cream shop and ask for a sample. I'm giving you a taste of the story.

Also, it works out nicely for me to do three brief snippets culminating with the entire first chapter when the MFRW Steam hop rolls around. At this point, I'll be preparing to introduce the next book in the series. You can think of MFRW Steam day as Free Cone Day.

  1. Peregrine Cenric Varga (wonderful name) is right. Sometimes mementos are an essential, not a luxury. And sometimes they are not.

    1. I have all too many things that aren't. My son has done a great job of helping me get things into a workable order so we can go through stuff. I have problems with hoarding, and it got out of hand during the years when I was working myself to death.

  2. Yes, hopefully they do manage to avoid them!

    1. They've done a good job of avoiding them so far (as have I) but one of these times the Pingucury will have to make an appearance!

  3. Peregrine has a soft heart. :-) Iker is a realist, though. A good combination for keeping all of them safe. :-)

  4. Nice characterization here just through their words.

    1. Thank you. I tend to let my dialogue do the talking. ;-)
I've tried to work a little more on the other elements of storytelling because I know I tend to be a bit dialogue-heavy.

  5. I feel for the young clone. Its hard to leave without something to hold on to.

    1. I agree. Even though these are short stories and the main focus is the lusty/romantic interaction, I felt this scene hard. I have trouble letting go of things.

  6. Definitely do the snippets you want to do! I will say these lonnngggg characters names are... wow, daunting.I imagine there's a good plot reason for them, however. I enjoyed the play of emotions in the snippet!

  7. Iker and Peregrine come across as believable people and their dialogue is excellent. Good job.

  8. I like reading dialogue, enjoy writing it, too. Your characters reveal themselves through the dialogue.

  9. Ah... You posted this over the weekend, then put the link up for Book Hooks! For a minute I was really confused, like, did I go back in time to the 14th???

Okay - an amphibious pleasure clone... you have quite an imagination!
