“Why do they suppose that I would have this key?” King Rokon inquired.

“They do not believe that you have the key, Sire,” the guard clarified. “The Yithian brought them to this dimension in order to escape some sort of malevolent entity.”

“So, these are Yithians?”

“The one that led them through the gate from Lake Hali is a Yithian, my king.”

“Of what variety are these other visitors?”

“One is a human spirit and the other two are former humans transformed into ghouls.”

Notes

This fix-up novel follows the events that transpired in Ketil and Yitzy’s Adventures in the Xura Dream House. The book can be read as a standalone, but for a better understanding of the characters and events, it is suggested that Ketil and Yitzy’s Adventure in the Xura Dream House should be read first. The speaker was a great snake with flexible, boneless arms. He held a trident in one hand. His golden scales glittered under the red sun that baked the desert world of Zandanua.

“Indeed,” mused the mighty emerald-scaled anthropomorphic snake king seated on the colossal throne of red stone in the grand hall of Ajnevan Palace. “Were they sent by my brother, Yig?”

“They are renegades, Mighty One,” the guard explained. “They are searching for a key to assist in solving a quest given them by Nyarlathotep.”

In the past, some folks have complained about the brevity of my snippets. In this case, I am under a contractual obligation not to share more than 500 words from the anthology until it has been published on February 23, 2023.

As a secondary consideration, I like to share snippets from stories featuring lesbian, gay, or bisexual characters with the Rainbow Snippets blog hop. This group likes six-sentence snippets: one sentence for each color of the rainbow.

Also, since many of my works are novelettes or shorter, I prefer brief snippets. I don't want to give away the entire book within the space of a month!

Parsifal jokingly called her the Hoe of Venice, to which Luisa responded, “it’s the Venetian Dreamboat, my Tennessee lamb,” in a Latin-tinged Southern accent while blowing the provocateur a kiss; the Tennessee lamb nickname both addressed Parsifal’s Southern roots and compared him to the lady of loose virtue in a humorous song by the band Little Feat.

Parsifal observed the fabled Dirty Dutchman through binoculars as van Donk and Valentyn Smolarek, a tall, slender, dark-haired, twenty-five-year-old Ukrainian man with striking navy-blue eyes, canoodled shamelessly on the deck of The Curious Elegance. The mature swain stroked his fingers over the younger man’s angular cheek and down his slender neck as he parted his conquest’s lips with his tongue.

“Oh, my stars, Girls, I swear the Amsterdam Hot Daddy might just be fixin’ to fuck the Ukrainian Stud Muffin right there on the deck of the Good Ship Lick My Lollipop,” Parsifal reported, his Tennessee accent lilting with excitement.

“Well, don’t keep it to yourself, Pendejo,” Luisa admonished. “Spill the frijoles!”

“I’m not even kidding, Louie. The old Silver Fox just squeezed a big ole dollop of suntan oil onto his hand and is rubbing it all over our boy Valentino’s gorgeous chest and abs. What I wouldn’t give to have my hands where his are!

Deborah Virgo and Valentins Hines met on the first day of summer 2017. The youngsters lived at the wrong end of Fox Avenue. The electricity had been turned off in Valentins's house, but he didn't mind sitting on the covered porch painting figurines. His mother, Doriend Hines, was gone most of the time, working at the Daily Grind Bistro or The Zealous Whistle Tavern or staying overnight with old folks who paid her under the table for her caregiving services. Doriend was a workaholic who would have been thriving monetarily if not for being a functional alcoholic and opioid addict with a love of gambling.

Valentins was sitting on the porch at dusk, painting a vampire figurine for his haunted house, when a wraithlike girl with an alabaster complexion and waves of xanthic hair flowing to her mid-back entered the gate.
