“Ketil, my friend, I find you a most humorous companion,” the creature stated. “What have we to fear from Nyarlathotep? We are but two lonely souls, one the shade of a once-unhappy Earthman who ended his own life, the other a creature outcast from his kind for possessing too much empathy to allow him to conduct potentially life-threatening experiments on those creatures my fellows deemed inferior. We are not power-hungry, we have no armies of fawning sycophants prostrating themselves at our feet, we have no money at all, let alone monetary excess. To the likes of Nyarlathotep, we are worthless. I do like it that way. Do you concur?”

Notes:
Yitzy Yithian is a member of the Great Race of Yith who has been exiled by his fellow Yithians for displaying too much empathy.

Ketil Nagel is the spirit of a Swedish metal musician who sacrificed himself to the Elder Gods.

The Great Race of Yith and Nyarlathotep are the creations of H.P. Lovecraft. Ketil Nagel and Yitzy Yithian are the creations of Team Netherworld.

  1. I concur. It's always a good idea for the powerful movers and shakers to ignore you -- until such time, that is, as you are ready to confront them.

  2. Hmmm...will he concur?? I think Yitzy is smart enough to recognize the benefits of flying beneath the radar. :-) Good snippet!

  3. Yitzy's kind of a downer but also very practical in his (its?) recitation of all the things they do not have and why they therefore should be safe. Enjoyed the snippet!

    1. Thank you. I chuckled at your assessment because between Ketil and Yitzy, Yitzy is by far the more optimistic of the pair. He tends to see their condition as a "glass half full" situation.

  4. That sounds reasonable. If they're of no interest, then there probably won't be trouble, or is that just wishful thinking? Enjoyed the snippet!

I try to get comments published as quickly as possible. I have ADHD and anxiety and sometimes I need to work myself up to be able to respond to comments. I don't always reply to comments on my blog, but I do try to visit as many people as possible when I participate in blog hops. I share your work on the monthly Roost Recommendations posts at ornerybookemporium.blogspot.com so others can discover your work. I do read and appreciate your comments.
Sorry, the Captcha is back and this time it's staying. I was inundated with spam comments when I turned it off. I wish butt rash on all the spammers out there.
