“Don’t even think about it, Parsley,” I admonished myself as I felt a stirring in my loins when I gripped Seth’s pale, slender hand. “We’ll draft a nice Gothic story about a smolderingly seductive vampire who has his way with the innocent young prodigal son who just returned home to Ye Olde Manor after a year away. We will have naughty video chats with our sexy girlfriends. We will not, and I repeat, will not seduce our ex-boyfriend’s new man.”
“So, how’s life in paradise, Parsley?” Bobby asked. “Man, look how tan you are! You make Seth and me look like we spent the last year in a tomb!”
“Didn’t we?” Seth joked.
Lil's Musings
I’m sure this problem isn’t exclusive to writers with ADHD, but having a brain with wacky wiring combined with the proclivity for second-guessing myself doesn’t help.
I have been struggling to wrestle a story into submission for this year’s Passionate Ink anthology.
With the March 16th deadline looming and having given this story three chances to straighten up and fly right, I’ve shelved it in favor of a quick and dirty plot that will hopefully realize who’s boss.
It isn’t that the story I was working on was bad, it’s just too damn intricate to be confined to 10,000 words.
Take two: I just shelved the second iteration of this project and am now working on a third one. While the story does have a cohesive plot, I decided to opt for the Metric Fuckton of Sex option as opposed to a subtler, more nuanced slow burn culminating in something explosive.
