When criminal-defense attorney Richie Marlboro awoke in his bed on the morning of the fifth of July, the dirty fingerprints on his white dress shirt reminded him of the lady cop swinging him around like a shotput last night, but who was this naked girl in his bed? She was young, with a beautiful face that sported too much cheap makeup. He only had his shirt on but was relieved to see a soiled condom nearby. Maybe he would remember more later. 

Richie’s head ached with a hangover as he gazed around the master bedroom of his peculiar nineteenth-century rowhouse and its myriad pieces of railroad memorabilia. He could afford better but did not want to spend too much on housing. Plus, he had grown up in this bad neighborhood, so most of his clients were old friends. He examined the girl. She wasn’t a cop, but she was not a streetwalker either. So far, so good.
